Description
Basics of keelboat sailing certification
This is the entry-level sailing course for beginner or novice sailors. Our standard format includes 14 to 16 hours of training. This consists of 3 to 4 hours in a classroom and 12 hours on the water. The water training is divided into three separate 4-hour sessions. Private or semi-private lesson formats may differ slightly. However, our standard format includes only two students per boat. This approach ensures maximum learning outcomes. Upon completing the course, you will earn the ASA Basic Keelboat Sailing Certification (ASA 101). This certification meets the ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing standard. You will learn essential boat handling and sailing skills. This includes rigging and unrigging the boat, tying basic knots, and understanding the rules of the road. You will explore points of sail, crew coordination, and safety equipment. Additionally, you will practice sailing in confined areas and docking under sail. Local sailing considerations, outboard motors, and docking under power will also be covered. Finally, a general review will help reinforce your knowledge.

On-the-water Practical Sessions
Our practical sessions are conducted on the famous J/24 sailboats that are renowned for their responsive yet stable platform, making it easy for beginners to learn. We have a fleet of J/24’s, some of which are available for rent after you have completed the course. Our focus is to keep the student count low to ensure that each student gets individual attention from the instructor. We offer several different membership programs for renting our boats on an hourly basis, and this class also includes the check-out sail required to rent our sailboats.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive the ASA 101 Basic Keelboard Sailing Certification, which demonstrates their ability to safely skipper a cruising sailboat. This certification is recognized by the American Sailing Association
